VAIO 2027 Regulations

Official regulations for the Vietnam Artificial Intelligence Olympiad 2027The national selection competition to choose the Vietnam team for IAIO 2027 in Da Nang.

Introduction

VAIO 2027 consists of two rounds: Round 1 (National Qualifier, October 2026) held at 5–6 test sites nationwide, and Round 2 (National Final, January 2027) held in Hanoi. Top performers earn places on the Vietnam national team for IAIO 2027 in Da Nang.

Eligibility

Open to secondary-school students (THCS and THPT) enrolled in Vietnamese schools who are 20 or under on 1 July 2027. Round 1 & 2 entry is free.

Round 1: National Qualifier

When:
October 2026 (09:00–12:00). Exact date announced on this site.
Where:
5–6 test sites: Hanoi, Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City, Thai Nguyen, Can Tho.
Duration:
180 minutes.
Format:
Multiple-choice questions (one or more correct answers), bilingual (Vietnamese/English).
Entry fee:
Free.
Advancement:
Top 100 by total score advance to Round 2.

Round 2: National Final

When:
January 2027 (Friday–Sunday). Exact dates announced after Round 1.
Where:
Hanoi (tentatively the National Innovation Center, NIC). Exact venue announced with invitations.
Schedule:
Fri: Opening + equipment check. Sat: On-computer practical, a five-hour ML session (09:00–14:00). Sun: Awards ceremony.
Format:
A single on-computer ML task. The organizer provides a training dataset and a base model. Candidates train an optimized model and submit predictions against a private test set. Five hours (09:00–14:00).
Entry fee:
Free — fully sponsored by the organizer. No charge to candidates.
Bring:
National ID (CCCD or passport), personal laptop with charger, pen and eraser.

Awards and National Team

The top 8 candidates each receive a Gold Medal. As host nation, Vietnam fields two teams for IAIO 2027 in Da Nang, 25 Feb – 2 Mar 2027: the top 4 form Team Vietnam 1 and the next 4 form Team Vietnam 2, plus 2 reserves. Award tiers: Gold (8 medals), Silver, Bronze, Consolation (Giải Khuyến khích), Honorable Mention (Giải Danh dự).

General Rules

  • Valid national ID required at both venues.
  • Bilingual exam papers (Vietnamese/English). Answers in either language.
  • No external resources, internet, or communication devices during the exam.
  • Practical: personal laptop only. No cloud compute or AI code-completion tools.
  • Cheating or impersonation results in immediate disqualification.
  • Organizer decisions on scoring and awards are final.
